About the Program:
stART is an audition-based, conservatory-style arts intensive that allows students across the county to cultivate their crafts and discover how other arts disciplines inform their practice. Taught over two weeks by district teachers and teaching artists from some of the best collegiate programs in the nation, stART illuminates how a career in the arts is profitable and enriching. Students spend the majority of their days focusing on their major area and end each day taking electives in other arts areas. The program culminates in a student-led showcase performance. The program is open to SDOC, charter, private, and homeschooled students.
Teaching Artists:
Our world-class teaching artists come from esteemed university programs such as the Juilliard School, Berklee College of Music, Indiana University, the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, and the Savannah College of Art and Design. The teaching artists exemplify how our students can build a meaningful and fruitful career in the arts.
Scholarship & College Prep:
Juniors and seniors will receive 1-1 and small group mentorship from a college-prep professional that specializes in arts in higher education. Seniors are eligible to apply for a $500 scholarship presented each year at the stART showcase.
How to Participate:
Students will audition for the program in April. Audition information will be shared with fine and performing arts teachers and via SDOC Socials (@SDOCarts). Students accepted into the program will register in May. The program typically takes place in June.
