Attendance Requirements
Participants are required to attend at least 80% of a course to receive points. Some courses, such as Endorsement courses, require 100% attendance. One point is equivalent to one full hour of participation.
-
When can new employees register for workshops?
New employees can register for workshops immediately after the first day of regular employment.
-
How do I cancel my registration for a course I cannot attend?
The "withdraw" option is available until the day before a class begins. You can withdraw by selecting the course under "My Courses" then select "withdraw".
For last minute withdraws, please contact the instructor for the course via email.
-
What does "wait list" status mean?
If a registered participant withdraws before the course start date, and you are the next in line on the wait list, you are automatically moved into the course. Your status is also updated to "registered".
If you are moved into a course from a wait list, MyPGS sends an automated email notifying you of your updated status.
-
How do I know how many points I will receive for a course?
One credit, or point, equals one full hour of professional learning. Courses are assigned credits based on the number required to complete the course. Therefore, a 3-hour course equals 3 credits/points.
-
Can I submit my College Courses for credit in MyPGS?
Professional Support Staff may submit college courses that are job-relevant through MyPGS as an External PD for course credit.
Instructional and Administrative Staff do not need to submit college courses. For FL DOE re-certification, an official college transcript is required.
-
Can I just show up to a workshop without registering on MyPGS?
There are many reasons employees need to pre-register for courses in MyPGS:
- Participants receive inservice credits/points.
- It allows the instructor sufficient time to prepare materials.
- Guarantees every participant a seat.
- Stipend payments require verification of attendance through course rosters, if applicable.
-
Can I enter an External PD for a course I completed last school year?
External professional learning is to be entered into MyPGS prior to the learning start date.
FL DOE requires that professional development records are submitted at the end of each school year. If credit was not assigned prior to June 30th of the year in which the course was held, inservice credit cannot be awarded.
-
Am I required to complete the online survey?
Yes, it is very important to complete your online surveys.
Participants must complete the online survey before inservice points are awarded. Courses with incomplete surveys do not show on official inservice transcript records.
Complete your pending surveys on the MyPGS Home tab. Look for the "Course Surveys" section.
-
What should I do if I cannot find a course on my transcript?
1. Check for incomplete Course Surveys by looking at the home page under the "Course Survey" heading. Courses will not post on to your transcript until surveys are complete.
2. Check for incomplete External PDs under the External PD tab. If the External PD is on your active list, it has not been fully processed. Under "Owned By", it shows whom currently "holds" the request. If there is a line " - ", it is being processed through one of our queues. However, If it is your name, there are further steps you need to take for the request to be processed. For further assistance, please contact our office at 407-518-2940.
3. Complete a Transcript Verification Request Form and email the form to profdevhelp@osceolaschools.net. Our staff will research and respond accordingly.
-
If I completed a course, why do I not have a course survey?
Once the instructor indicates all requirements have been met, course surveys are automatically sent out through the MyPGS system.
Some courses are set for a monthly deadline. Therefore, you can complete the course before the required deadline but will not receive your course survey until the course is closed.
Please contact your instructor via email if you believe a survey should have been received.
-
May I attend a make-up session for a missed workshop?
Most courses do not offer make-up sessions. However, all make-up sessions must be approved by the Professional Learning Department in advance. Make-up sessions must be the same length and similar in contact/activity.
*Endorsement courses require 100% attendance and are not eligible for make-up sessions.*
