Instructional Materials
The Osceola County School District strives to provide students, schools and faculties with the highest quality of instructional materials to meet its educational goals and support 21st Century teaching and learning. We follow all Florida State Guidelines and Procedures in choosing the best materials possible and it is our goal to affect student achievement in the highest way possible as well as Osceola County School Board Rule 4.21 – Selection and Management of Instructional Materials for selection and review.
This school district maintains instructional materials as well as follows the material adoption cycle through the Florida DOE and the timeline provided.

Pursuant to Section 1006.28 and 1006.283, Florida Statutes, the School Board of Osceola County Florida, hereby proposes to hold a public hearing on the recommended 2024-2025 K-12 Social Studies, AP, and AICE instructional materials purchase. The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., in the School District of Osceola County Administrative Center Board Room located at 817 Bill Beck Boulevard, Kissimmee, Florida. October 2023
- Team reviews state adopted list from FLDOE and previews instructional materials from publishers.
- Team creates a needs assessment survey. The survey requests feedback from teachers regarding current materials and what is desired with new materials. Input the input collected from all teachers via eeds assessment Survey, Survey data compiled for the District Adoption Committee.
- Notify the public of the dates for the adopted committee & work with community relations to setup a livestream/website.
- School-based Administrators, with input from OCEA, select teachers to serve on the Adoption Committee. School-based Administrators invite parents and SAC members to serve on Adoption Committee. District departments (MITD, Multicultural, and ESE) select representatives to participate on the Adoption Committee.

November 2023
- Adoption Committee convenes and reviews the timeline, roles, responsibilities and adoption procedures. Participants are given results from Needs Assessment survey. Publishers present materials to Adoption Committee. Participants select which materials will be sampled at school sites.

December 2023
- Textbook publishers develop ten minute video presentations to explain materials available in their adoption. Publishers submit their video to district staff for review. Videos are preferably housed on the publisher's website and a link is provided to the committee.
- Adoption Committee members facilitate review of materials at each school site with teachers. Materials are made available online and at each school site for viewing. Teachers should review video presentations and sample curriculum materials in November/December.

January 2024
- Teachers vote at each school site, facilitated by Adoption Committee members. Adoption committee member will submit the school's vote via online survey. Votes from each school are tallied to ensure transparency. (Week of January 8 - 12)
- Social Studies department presents the results of the survey to the Assistant/Deputy Superintendents/Superintendent to make the final selection to be presented to the school board.
- District administration and committee make recommendation to the Superintendent and notify publishers of the recommendation that has been made. (Week of January 15-19)

January / February 2024
- Public is notified via District Website/Newspaper. The community may view student editions of recommended instructional materials online and at MITD for a 20 day period. Board members provided copies for review if requested.

February 2024
- School Board meeting to present the selected material. (Informational purposes only)

March 2024
- School Board meeting open to the public for public comment regarding adopted materials. This meeting is where the board will approve the materials. (March 5 Board Meeting)

April 2024
- If the School Board approves the recommendation (vote at March 5 board meeting), the public has 30 days to respond to the decision. (March 6 - April 6)

April / May / June 2024
- Collaborate with IT department regarding digital components of adopted curriculum.
- Ordering process for adopted materials will begin for 2024-2025 school year.
- Materials are delivered to school sites for use during the 2024-2025 school year.
