Admissions: GED®

Adult Learning Center Osceola programs are open to individuals who speak English fluently, are 16 years of age or older, and are withdrawn from school. Applicants seeking enrollment into the Adult Basic Education (ABE) or General Educational Development (GED®) program must take a pay for registration, pay for tuition, and take a placement test.

Step 1: Registration & Payment

Persons enrolling for classes should go to Apply Now on the top right of this website.

Initial cost for the [short] Summer semester is $55.00 ($30.00 tuition and $25.00 placement test).

Cost for continuing students is $30.00 tuition for the [short] Summer semester.

Students under the age 18 will be required to attend an on-campus underage orientation with a parent or guardian.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO VOLUNTARILY WITHDRAW FROM THE CLASS IN WHICH THEY HAVE ENROLLED. You will be notified only if the class you want is full or cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

Step 2: New Student Orientation & Placement Test

New students must take the Greater Opportunities for Adult Learning Success (GOALS) test. The GOALS consists of Reading and Math. While there is no pass or fail on the GOALS, you should try to do your best so you are placed in the proper GED® class.  Whether you select face-to-face or online GED® Academy classes, the GOALS must be taken in person at our Main or Poinciana locations.

Part of the testing process is a new student orientation where you will learn what to expect when you begin your classes, what ALCO has to offer, and all about the GED® test. Your counselor will be there to help you if you have any questions and you will also receive your student identification card and parking permit.

*The costs for the student identification card and parking permit are included in the registration fee. New students will need to take the placement test, which consists of reading, language and math skills, and is used to determine the prior knowledge of students. While there is no pass or fail, you should try to do your best so you are placed in the proper level of classes.

Step 3: Begin Classes

On your first day of class, you will receive a copy and explanation of your placement test scores.
