• What's Happening in Class?

  • The Aviation 3 class is doing fantastic work at disassembling the 3 aircraft engines. The teams are working out complex issues that come up during the disassembly process. They are cataloging and identifying the parts as they disassemble.

  • The Aviation Classes attended the Aerostar Flight School Open House last night at the Kissimmee Gateway Airport. The students were able to experience and learn about becoming a pilot. They were able to sit in and experiment with the flight schools' aircraft and also the high-tech simulators the school uses to train the airline pilots from the Orlando International Airport. The students were all fully engaged and extremely excited. The students talked to the school administrators and flight instructors about getting into the pilot field.
  • Alyshia and Micelle from Aerostar Flight School at the Gateway Airport came to the Aviation class today for a presentation on becoming a pilot. It went fantastically. The students were very engaged and asked a lot of questions. There were so many students involved I had to set up another meeting in the near future with Aerostar to accommodate all of the rest of the students interested.  We had a full house on this presentation. Thank you to all the teachers who excused the students to be able to come to the presentation.

  • We had McCorvey Aircraft Metals visit for a presentation to our Aviation Students. It was fantastic. The students were very involved and asked a lot of questions. McCorvey renewed our apprenticeship program again for our students due to the great results from last year. They had 7 of our students involved last year (that was their limit). This year they want 25 of our students to be in the apprenticeship program. We can fill that easily.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and our school.
  • The Aviation students participated in the Air Expo Competition at UCF. All the High Schools that had an Aviation Curriculum in Osceola, Orange, Seminole, Volusia, and Brevard Counties were invited to participate in this competition. The competition was made up of teams with 2 students per team. Each team member had to take off, fly an obstacle course, and land the airplane and then switch to a Drone and repeat. Then the team members switched and repeated the process. The times of each student were recorded and combined together as a team. There were a total of 80 teams in the competition.

OHS students placed in the top 25 teams. (Out of 80 teams).
John Ennis and Derrick Torres placed 2nd in the competition. They received a UCF Scholarship, a $75 visa gift card, and a Drone for their placement. Your Kowboy Aviation Students rocked the house. It was an amazing day for our school, our Aviation Program, our County, and our District! Go Kowboys!
  • The Kowboy Aviation Classes went on a field trip to Jet Blue Airlines at the Orlando International Airport. They toured the hangar facility, engines, and the A320 aircraft featured in the pictures. What a joy to watch their faces as they went through this tour. It was awesome. The students asked lots of questions and were extremely attentive. It was a fantastic trip and they learned a lot. Oh Boy! Wait til next year to see what we have planned!!
